This week, we expanded on our understanding of identity by looking at the impact of AI. We learnt about negative prompting in terms of GenAI and then began to think about the concept of identity through negative prompting. We used a GenAI chatbot, such as ChatGPT or Claude, to create a story about ourselves but then using negative prompting to change and build upon the story the bot created.
It was interesting to see how the conversations played out with negative prompting in mind and also to see how GenAI responded to these specific stories and initial prompts. For example, when I asked ChatGPT to create a story about GenAI itself, it often picked a plot where the AI 'won' and humanity was destroyed or negatively impacted. When I prompted it to not use this direction and asked what I wanted it to do instead, it continued to create a dystopian idea as the centre of the story. How has it learnt to think this way and, if not negatively prompted, it would be interesting to see what it would have created for the story itself.
